Everything you want to know about Read Across America 2021
Are you wondering what is Read Across America 2021 all about?
In 1998, the National Education Association (NEA) launched a program called Read Across America.
The goal of this revolutionary initiative is to get children and adolescents excited about reading.
They do so by hosting various events. It includes events like book clubs whereby the participants get opportunities to meet authors in person.
When is it held?
The good news is that you can celebrate Read Across America however and whenever you choose!
NEA is excited to bring you a year-round program with daily, weekly, or monthly reading fun.
There are even big celebrations of reading on March 2nd and during National Reading Month in January for all children who want to enjoy the joys of reading.
Who celebrates the events?
In the United States, reading is a priority. Governors and mayors are pro-reading in their communities.
To support this noble cause, they are issuing statements or proclaiming days of celebration for it.
Athletes like Lebron James promote literacy to children through challenges.
On the other hand, some renowned actors like Morgan Freeman issue their challenge with hopes that students will get excited about books again.
Teachers also have creative ways to keep kids interested too; teachers may dye their hair green so they can be “green” just like them!
How can you celebrate?
You could celebrate the events in various ways. These are as follows:
1.With the help of Read Across America’s resources, you as a parent have plenty to do to promote diversity and inclusion.
With this initiative, your kids will be able to read books about people who look like them.
They can get to know them and find it exciting and have fun.
2. Nationwide, NEA uses Read Across America to help kids enjoy and relate to what they read.
When everything from your Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, the 100th day of school up through Memorial Day, includes books as a part of these festivities.
The main aim is to raise awareness about how important it is for children to be reading throughout their year.
3. You can make your community the place where Read Across America is on everyone’s calendar.
When people take time to read with children, they send a message that reading is essential.
These messages from parents and community members at monthly or annual events for Read Across America celebrations encourage kids to pick up books themselves and celebrate diversity in our country.
